Avatar Makeover

I could do with a change. Couldn't we all? I'd like you to comment on the following images as a possible avatar for myself. Not a big range to choose from, you're probably thinking. Well, I'm not going to put up just any old thing.

Tell me what you think in the comments. If you don't give a fuck, don't be shy.

If you think this is a pathetic, self-indulgent, self-absorbed, look-at-me-please post you might make mention of that too. I can take it.

Why Brian Jones? I suppose there should be a really good reason, but there isn't. However, there'll be a post about this 60s archetype and original line-up Rolling Stone early in the New Year.

Fascinating character. Even if he looks about as much like my true self as the current avatar does.

I vote for #3 - I like the look of mild disdain on his face. Too cool for school.

#3 for me too...because I'm a sucker for colour coordinating ones outfit with ones instrument especially when it involves a turtleneck, this takes great courage. It also looks like he has lovely ginger bangs!

#3 is ok, #2 is better with the sci fi flash on the top.

Can't say which is the best. Having trouble with the "separated at birth " chugging around in my head.

Brian Jones and Herman's Hermits ... !?

It's 3 or 6. You decide. Self-indulgent, look-at-me? Let the blogger who free from blame cast the first stone... (I think it's kind accepted in the circles - we all agree that's it's not such a bad thing, really).

#2 or #6. I think #2 looks pretty and #6 is a little more 'serious artist' if that's the look you're going for.

Mooiness:
Good reasoning. It shows Jones playing slide on a Gibson Explorer, a style and a guitar that he helped popularize.

Sillyyak:
Thanks for dropping in. Nice choice. I think you mean #2, where Jones is playing the Vox Teardrop guitar. Top 60's rock-pop TV image.

Andrew:
The outfit dates it to late '65 when pop art was a big influence. Nice choice.

Lord Sedgewick:
I see the resemblance too, but HH were bubblegum. The Stones had substance. Flawed, yes. But substantial nonetheless.

Blakkat:
#6 is definitely the best reproduction. You've got a good eye. And this will be my last self-indulgent post. Till the next one.

BC:
Good taste, and backed up with incisive logic, too. Serious artist. Hmmm. Will have to come with a delusions of grandeur alert.

Firstly I liked the first one (partly for his complete lack of eyes) but now I like #6. It's arty and cool (groovy?) and a nice photo.

And self-indulgence on a blog... Tsk! Unheard of!

I guess #2 is the coolest pic. Brian Jones was so cool, thing is would he have been as cool if he was now making a jerk of himself like Jagger etc pricking around on stage and pretending they're twenty? Also, and you can shoot me if you like, I think about 90 per cent of the Stones' output is just so dull, droney, not even interesting enough to have on as background while you fuck. no idea why they are so famous. any idea?

EB:
I've got a soft spot for #6 as well. It's from 1965, a transition year from pop art to psychedelia. I think it's groovy too.

emmak:
Thanks for stopping by this humble blog. Jones drowned at 27 but with his lifestyle and medical history he probably wouldn't have got too far past 35. I'm a Stones fan, but recognize their many flaws and understand the disdain some feel for them. As to background for horizontal folk-dancing, I recommend Brown Sugar form their 1971 album, Sticky Fingers.

"Flawed, yes. But substantial nonetheless."

True. (I refer to the physical resemblance rather than any musical comprarison - there aint none!)

As a callow yoof, "Satisfaction" was my anthem and "Lady Jane" tearer at my even callower heartstrings. (Alongside "The Eve of Destruction." and dare I admit to a soft spot in my head for Sonny and Cher back then in the Middle Ages?)

LS:
1965 was a great year for rock songs wasn't it? I played in a 60s cover band that did quite a few from that year. S & C were part of the Dylan-influenced wave that also brought us The Byrds and The Turtles and I won't knock them despite their atrocious 70s TV show.

Lord Sedgwick said...

You're talking my collection of LPs, LL.

We're talking' A Grade halcyon.

(And right from left field ... Ian and Sylvia.)

Lad Litter said...

LS:
Don't start me! I think the 60s had a fair bit going for it in terms of music, fashion, movies etc. It's not really "my" era (born 1959) but I still think much of it looks and sounds cool in a timeless way. Worth a whole post, for sure. But you have to be selectively nostalgic don't you? Cos not ALL of it stacks up.

Lord Sedgewick:
I vaguely remember hearing of Ian & Sylvia but don't recognize anything at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ian_and_Sylvia

Lad Litter said...

Lord Sedgewick:
Silly me. Ian wrote Four Strong Winds which I hink Neil Young covered

Thanks for the advice on the new avatar folks. Very helpful. Image 6was chosen because it's the best photo, as many of you noted, and I love that Vox Teardrop guitar Brian Jones is playing.

Steph said...

yeah, like the black and white one you went with. How about the hair? lmao. Bowl cut!

Lad Litter said...

Steph:
Nice photo. That was what was considered loooong hair back in 1965. What's lmao again?

Crushed said...

I'd have gone for number four.

Lad Litter said...

Thanks CBI. Four is a good choice: it's in colour; and a good shot. I'll keep it in mind for future changes. I was looking for a clear Ed Sullivan Show-style image in colour.

Ms Smack said...

What a champ he was. I like the black and white one too. Nniiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice.

eleanor bloom said...

Yay! You picked the 6th one! I must say it looks splendid (very classy those black and whites...). ;)

BTW, I tag you for a meme!

Lad Litter said...

MS: Jones was the main visual focal point for the Stones in their early days as well as their musical driving force.

EB:
Nice shot, isn't it? He was quite a stylish chap.

iODyne said...

Brian Jones WAS The Rolling Stones.

He did not 'drown', he was murdered by builders renovating his house.

He was a musical genius with an undiagnosed mental illness.

oh Brian.

Jill said...

Definitely the last black and white one!

Lad Litter said...

RM: Thanks for sharing my good taste. Yes, I thought it was the logical choice too. Really captures his Vox Teardrop guitar.

HG:
He was their early, blues-influenced driving force, no doubt.
Murdered by Frank Thorogood, who hel him under the water, to be precise. You've proably seen the Stephen Woolley movie Stoned(2005) which goes through the known facts.

Undiagnosed epilepsy and possibly bi-polar, by the sound of it.
